CHARLES FOX (HON. PRESIDENT)
Never having run before, in early 2012 I ran a mile as one of the ‘The One Show, One Thousand’ a 1000 mile relay around the UK linking towns and villages, the ones that the 2012 Olympic Torch missed. That One Mile started my running journey, late in my life, I was 59, since then, joining in the club runs and occasional races, I wonder why I didn’t start earlier. I am honoured to be asked to take over from Caroline Woodford as Hon President of New Forest Runners. My task is to increase the membership of NFR and club running whenever I can. I enjoy every run with club and know that all the club members who run, at whatever speeds they can, Enjoy running as part of this wonderful club.
JIM EDGAR (CHAIR)
Eloise and I moved to the area in May 2019 and I joined the New Forest Runners almost immediately. I received a very warm welcome, found it very easy to make new friendships and my running was gradually transformed from that of a casual runner to a marathon entrant (still a very novice one). I continue to enjoy many great times with NFR friends both on club runs, races and events elsewhere and socially.
Having joined the main committee in 2023 I was elected Chair in 2024.
HELEN LAMB (COMMITTEE)
MARIO SHEATH (CLUB SECRETARY)
So no-one was more surprised than me when I decided to take up running when Marion and I decided to give up karate that we had done together for about 10 years. I knew that Marion had been a promising runner as a junior up in Essex, so when they started parkrun at Brockenhurst College (where I just happen to work) after a while I signed Marion and I up. Attendance was a bit sporadic initially, but I finally grew to love parkrun; nothing stops us now and I’ve now surpassed 250 runs at 75 events.
After a couple of years at parkrun and completing the New Forest 10; the New Forest Half Marathon and finally the New Forest Marathon (all at a fairly pedestrian rate), Marion and I decided to join a running club. Despite living in Totton, we had made friends with a few New Forest Runners via parkrun and were familiar with Wilverley, so we decided to join New Forest Runners
